Banning of my song by NBC is hilarious – Falz

Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has reacted to the banning of his song by the National Broadcasting Commission.

The NBC on Thursday fined a radio station in Jos N100, 000, for playing Falz’ ‘This is Nigeria’ song.

The NBC said the song was “laced with vulgar lyrics” and as such shouldn’t be played on air.

Reacting to the development via his Instagram handle, Falz said the entire situation was hilarious.

The NBC pointed out that they had a problem with the part that goes, “This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal.”

Also, the commission fined the station for playing Olamide’s song titled “See Mary, See Jesus.”

The letter said Mary and Jesus were regarded as sacred by the Christian faith and as such, the song contravened the law.

The station was also cautioned for playing Wande Coal’s Iskaba with the lyrics, “Girl you dey make me kolo, shaking the ass like kolo”,  which NBC described as vulgar.

Breaking: Oshiomhole, DG DSS, 30 APC Senators meet on how to impeach Saraki, Says Timi Frank

As DSS takes over NASS, Bars Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, Journalists, Staff from gaining entrance to NASS ABUJA- FORMER Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, this morning raised the alarm that the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DG – DSS), Lawan Daura and 30 APC Senators are spearheading fresh moves to illegally impeach Senate Prssident, Dr. Bukola Saraki. According to Frank, the 30 APC Senators are bring led by the Senate leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, APC, Yobe North. Preparatory to the meeting of the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives slated for 12 noon today, men of the DSS are stopping Journalists and staff from gaining entrance to the National Assembly complex. Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions and a very strong loyalist of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, PDP, Kwara South has been stopped from entering the National Assembly as DSS take over the complex. Even a Journalist who had tried to enter had his phone sophisticated by the security operatives, though it was said to have been returned to him after some minutes. Meanwhile, Frank who raised the alarm in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday morning, said that the APC National Chairman, the DSS and the APC Senators group met last night in Abuja to perfect strategies on how to carry out the plot. He said that he has reliable information that the meeting was at the instance of Oshiomhole who is currently pressurizing President Muhammadu Buhari to accept his proposal of using “crude tactics” to topple Saraki and his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. According to him, reliable information emanating from the meeting, that National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the APC, Chief Adeniyi Adebayo, joined Oshiomhole in pushing for the illegality while some APC Senators and House of Representatives members at the meeting kicked against the plot saying any “forceful removal of Saraki without due process will not fly with Nigerians.” The lawmakers, according to Frank, were said to have further alerted Oshiomhole and the APC leadership that they only have 30 Senators on ground which will fall short of the 73 Senators required to lawfully impeach Saraki. According to them, while other APC Senators have since travelled out of the country on vacation, a proposal to appoint Senator Lawan from Yobe State as Saraki’s replacement would be a direct violation of the Federal Character Principle since the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is from Bauchi in the Northeast zone like Lawan. Frank noted that following the red flag raised by some of the APC Senators who warn of the consequences of the proposed illegality, the meeting was said to have been rescheduled to reconvene by 11am this morning enable Oshiomhole to call Mr. President in London at 9am this morning to brief him on the progress made so far. It was further learnt that Oshiomhole is expected to present the candidature of both Senators Lawan and George Akume to the President to make his choice during his proposed telephone conversation with Mr. President by 9am. He alleged that the Presidency through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has increased the $400,000 it is already offering to lure individual lawmakers to support the plot to illegally impeach Saraki to $500,000. According to him, the lawmakers are also being wooed with offers to drop all corruption charges against them by the Federal Government. He insisted that Saraki’s life and personal safety is at stake while appealing to Nigerians and leaders of the international community to urgently speak out to protect the President of the Senate, Saraki, and safeguard democracy in Nigeria. He said that the illegal plot to break into the Senate Chambers to illegally impeach Saraki, if allowed to happen, could lead to chaos and anarchy of unimaginable proportion in the country, capable of burying the nation’s democracy apart from the danger it portents for the lives, security and safety of Nigerians

NYSC declares 3-day mourning for 9 drowned corps members

ABUJA—National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has declared a three-day mourning for the nine NYSC members that drowned, weekend, in River Mayo-Selbe near Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.

At press time, divers in Taraba State were yet to recover the bodies of the two remaining corps members after seven of them were recovered on Saturday.

Yesterday, flags of NYSC nationwide were flown at half-mast to commence the three-day mourning for the nine corps members.

Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, Adeyemi Adenike, who disclosed this in a statement, said the search was still ongoing to recover the remaining two bodies.

When Vanguard visited Serti, headquarters of Gashaka Local Government, corps members declined to volunteer information following orders from the state NYSC.

However, some residents who were friends to some of deceased on social media confirmed that Chike Melvin Ijeh and Ucheonye Nkadi Joshua were among those that drowned.

A check on their timeline on Facebookrevealed a flood of eulogies from friends and acquaintances.

My last chat with them—friend

A resident, who gave her name as Ndidi, identified the first names of two other deceased as Blessing and Mimi.

She shared her last chat with Mimi with Vanguard and expressed shock over their demise.

According to Ndidi, “I was supposed to visit Mimi that Saturday. Unfortunately, I couldn’t because I had some other things to do. If I had visited her, probably I would have joined them to the picnic and only God knows what could have happened.”

In her account of her last encounter with Chike, she said: “I met him last at the ATM point where we talked on so many things. I can remember vividly that I was actually sick and queried him for not checking on me and he apologised.

“Being a nice guy, he also volunteered to help me withdraw from the ATM, but because of the crowd I opted to go withdraw from the counter, not knowing that would be the last time I would see him.”

Their place of primary assignment

Another resident of the neighbourhood, where some of the deceased lived, Bisong Alfred, gave the name of the place of primary assignment of two others as Elly Demonstration Academy, Serti.

When Vanguard visited their residence, their rooms were locked and fellow corps members were mourning, but declined to speak.

The Corps Liaison Officer, who ran into Vanguard, said the Local Government Inspector was the right person to be contacted for comments.

All efforts to reach him proved abortive as his mobile phone was switched off.

Meanwhile, Taraba State government, yesterday, condoled with the family of the nine corps members.

A statement by the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Ishaku on Media, Bala Dan-Abu, prayed God to grant families of the deceased fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement further advised corps members to always inform authorities and security agencies of their activities to forestall recurrence of such in the state.

NYSC statement

A statement by the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, disclosed that seven bodies have so far been recovered from the river by local divers and security agents but that the search for two other missing corps members was ongoing.

The statement reads: “The entire NYSC family is shocked and saddened by the cruel twist of fate that befell our corps members who drowned as a result of the sudden increase in water volume and surge of the River Mayo-Selbe, near the Gashaka Falls in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“The corps members had, on Saturday, August 4, embarked on a picnic at the site before the unfortunate incident.

“Seven bodies have so far been recovered by the local divers and security agents while the search for the remaining two missing corps members is ongoing.

“Management has, therefore, declared a three-day mourning for the souls of our departed heroes, beginning from Monday, August 6, during which NYSC flags nationwide would fly half-mast.

“Our condolences are with the families and the scheme covets your prayers at this moment.”

Details latter…

Senator Godswill Akpabio Has finally decamped to APC. minister of Information Lai Mohammed welcomes Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Sunday said the ruling All Progressives Congress welcomes the defection of Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to the party from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

He also described the recent defection of some governors and lawmakers from the APC as nothing but “a storm in a teacup.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that there had been rumour making the rounds about the defection of the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, from the Peoples Democratic Party to APC.

Akpabio had visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Sunday.

Mohammed, however, told newsmen in Lagos that those who left the ruling party did so for personal interests.

“I welcome it (defection of Akpabio) because all politics is local. All those who have left us did that for purely personal reasons.

“Since they say politics is a game of number, of course we welcome gladly the defection of the minority leader. Like they say, it is one-one goalless draw.”

On whether Akpabio was being positioned for the position of the Senate President, Mohammed said “that I don’t know.”

Mohammed said that the recent defection of some governors, state and federal lawmakers to the main opposition party, PDP, was nothing to worry about.

“There have been so much hype about this defection, and to me, it’s nothing but a storm in a teacup. We must appreciate the fact that at the end of the day, all politics is local.

“One should ask, what is the electoral value of these decampees? In other words, today in Sokoto State, what’s the electoral value of those who have decamped,” he asked?

According to him, the foundation for the defection was laid the moment Dr. Bukola Saraki emerged Senate President against the wish of the party, which affected the relationship between the executive and the legislature.

The minister said that since the day Saraki lobbied the opposition party to become the Senate President, the relationship between the executive and legislature had been turbulent.

“In fact, we could not have suffered more as an executive in the hands of the legislature if a PDP person had been the senate president,” he said.

On allegation of lopsided appointment of Kwara people in Buhari’s administration, Mohammad described it as unfounded.

He said that no fewer than 24 indigenes of Kwara State were given federal appointments, of which he (Mohammed) only recommended two, while the Senate President recommended 20.

On those complaining of not being given juicy appointments, the minister said that people complaining were not ready to serve and turn things around but eyeing what to steal.

“It is not true that a particular part of the country is being favoured against the other.

“I challenge anybody to go to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and take out the list of appointees under this administration.”

“You will be surprised that we have been fair to all,” the minister said.

Nine corpers drown during riverside picnic

Nine members of the National Youth Service Corps who are currently serving in Taraba State on Saturday drowned in River Mayo-Selbe in Gashaka Local government Area.

Taraba State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Missal, who confirmed the death of nine out of the 22 corps members who were swimming in River Mayo-Selbe said seven corpses have so far been recovered from the incident.

“We were made to understand that while they were swimming in the river, there was sudden upsurge in the volume of water, which carried them away.

“Nine of them drowned, while others managed to escape.

“We have so far recovered seven corpses, while the search for the two remaining corpses is still in progress,” Missal said.

“Information available revealed that 22 youth corps members had gone on a picnic party in River Mayo-Selbe in Gashaka LGA on Saturday when the incident happened.

State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Florence Yaakugh, also confirmed the incident, which she described as “most unfortunate.”

Yaakugh also confirmed that seven bodies have been recovered, while the search for the other two bodies was still ongoing by the locals in collaboration with security agencies and the NYSC.

“It’s a very sad development and we would soon have the identity of all the corps members involved in the accident and make such information known appropriately.

“We have very sketchy information indicating that about nine of our corps members drowned in Gashaka yesterday.

“So far, seven bodies have been recovered and we are working with relevant persons to recover the rest of the bodies and to identify them.

“This is a very sad development and the entire NYSC family in Taraba State is already thrown into deep mourning,” she said.
